Like Tierra del Fuego, a piece of real estate that Argentina had set its mind on, so Chile let 'em have it. (The English had a different opinion on the Falklands.)
Nobody lives there in winter but the police; must get pretty desolated. In summer, they are busy turning it into a sort of Calafate-like resort. Boulevards and everything; wonder if they'll succeed. When we were there it mainly reminded me of a set-in-construction of a movie like The Gold Rush. If you like rain, you'll love hiking there. Much to explore around the place. Then, getting there and back to Calafate is almost worth it for the trip.
