Kibrahacha
[ax breaker]

The kibrahacha tree is the most spectacularly flowering tree of Curaçao island.
Best about it is, it breaks out in wild displays when there's not so much else around, so it really stands out.
Not only in that respect, it's much like Japan's cherries: it grows in the wild.

Next best may be, it starts showing off at a time when there are hardly any tourists around.
Bloom lasts only a couple of days, even shorter than for those cherries.
Kibrahacha literally means break ax, so you may surmise the wood is pretty hard.
Without getting to deeply into botanical nomenclature (difficult enough - even botanists are wont to get it wrong)
let's just agree it's one of the Tabebuias, probably billbergii.

During the last ten to fifteen years of the 20th century the kibrahacha, which used to be pretty scarce,
has made an astounding come-back, obviously due to the disappearance of the free-roaming goats.

These were made around 1985, when there still were plenty of goats around - mind the fence around the tanki pond.
The ones below are from 2006.
