South Island lies right smack in the Roaring Forties' path
just like Patagonia—and it shows

The wind is not consistent. You find many regions with shelterbelts,
then again the landscape is completely devoid of them.
Of course there are reasons for this, I just don't know them.
"free" energy

In a place like that, you'd expect many more of those eyesores.
That they aren't around really makes one wonder.
Say, why is it called free when you take it out of thin air,
but when you pump it from the ground it's not?
Just a mere thought.
