New Zealand
volcanoes
New Zealand (AKA 'the Shaky Islands') is on the 'Ring of Fire' - which tends to explain the many earthquakes
these photographs were made in the Wai-O-Tapu "Thermal Wonderland"
Devil's Coral Reef
There are many of these volcanic parks around; probably all worth a visit.
Not such a grand scale as those in the USA or in Patagonia
but smaller is just as beautiful. But here are some NZ mountain views more in that vein:
Lady Knox Geyser
Center stage!
Business as usual: This geyser was discovered by a bunch of working stiffs;
some noble lady heard about it and went to visit it, and graciously lent it her name.
It's supposed to erupt daily at 10:15, at which time the amphitheater is full.
What they don't tell you, it only erupts after the stand-up comedian empties a container of soap into it.
the lady dutifully comes and blows
the audience watches her squirting on their viewfinders, gets bored before she's finished, and leaves
The Devil Did It
And now on to more spectacles, all called fancy names like "the Devil's Champagne Pool" and such.
Who cares? here they are called randomly different, just as good (can't be much worse anyway.)
What makes those names so funny is that to the Maori Wai-O-Tapu means "Sacred Waters"
